About Amaya
Amaya as a character is an exploration of the feelings and emotions that a Warrior of Light might feel along their journey, particularly with all the loss and sacrifice. As a result, Amaya is not quite happy with her role as the savior, but her sense of duty is too strong and selfishness is not in her nature. She wants to help people, she wants to save those who cannot save themselves, but she does wish it wasn’t such a heavy burden to carry. Her story is heavily centered on grief, healing, and finding herself as she ages and her experiences change her.The Amaya you will first meet in my writing, while reserved and a little shy, is quick to laugh, wears her heart on her sleeve, and is eager and happy to help every person she comes across. She is not without her troubles, but she is ultimately a happy person.That is not the case later on. As those she has lost and all the hardship begin to wear on her, Amaya becomes quieter, more serious, and bitter toward what she views as her lot in life. Still, she knows she must press on to enact whatever Hydaelyn's plan is for her and the world, and keep those she loves along with the rest of the world safe.Amaya was born and raised in Kugane by her well-off, merchant parents. She never wanted for much in her life, but she always yearned for more than the path laid out for her. She wanted to travel and see the world outside the city-state. Though her mother tried to keep her in line, she often slipped away to go sit by the docks and watch the ships coming and going. As she watched and wondered about the lands they hailed from, she picked up her basic grasp of the Eorzean language.
She was skilled in all the things a woman of her social status should be, but music was where she truly shined. Any instrument she picked up was quickly mastered, but she always favored the flute.After catching her in the garden at night, shooting arrows at their poor tree, Amaya's father taught her (without her strict mother's knowledge) how to properly shoot a bow. She excelled at it, but it was something she was to keep secret.When the calamity struck when she was eighteen years old, so too did her Echo, causing her to have visions of people's pasts. More often than not, these were initiated by physical touch and they often incapacitated her. Her parents, not understanding what it was, urged her to hide it and her world became even smaller than it had been before with her parents keeping an even closer eye on her.At twenty-three years old, her marriage was arranged with another merchant family. Seeing any hope of the life she wished for disappearing before her eyes, on the night before her engagement was to be announced, Amaya left Kugane, using her jewelry to purchase passage on a ship bound for Eorzea. Though she intended to sneak out so she wouldn't have to say goodbye, leaving behind a letter to explain her choice, her parents caught her. They issued her an ultimatum that if she left, she would no longer be their daughter. Upset and hurt, she left regardless and found herself on a ship.She arrived first in Limsa Lominsa and after clumsily inquiring about an archer's guild, left for Gridania to begin her life as an adventurer. Having only a rudimentary grasp on spoken Eorzean and almost no skill in writing it, when she joined the adventurer's guild, she gave a false surname, inspired by a passenger she met on the ship over that would be both easier for an Eorzean to spell and less recognizable than her true surname. Thus, did her adventure begin.As of current MSQ, Amaya is twenty-eight years old. She is still a work in progress and I find out more about her every day.
